Social Butterflies and Party Animals, It’s Your Time To Stand Out!

by: Ariane Fecteau (Social Quarterback)

Only a few days until QUEUC! By now, you should have everything ready to go: you’ve registered for the conference, your fascinating paper is polished and ready to amaze us all, your accommodation/travel arrangements are settled, and most importantly, you’ve picked your stylish-and-unique-yet-business-casual outfit for the weekend.

So far on the QUEUC blog, we’ve been telling all about what happens before you set foot in quaint little Lennoxville. However, if you’re anything like me, you probably want to mentally prepare for all the (cool and nerdy) social interactions you’re about to experience at QUEUC (I don’t blame you, curating a good fun fact about yourself on the spot isn’t an easy task!)

If you’re a QUEUC veteran (GOOD FOR YOU!) get ready to be blown away by this year’s new and improved format! However, if this is your first time attending the conference, do not fret, I’ve got just what you need right here

FRIDAY: Registration begins on Friday at 11:30 in Cleghorn. There you will receive your nametag and a package with important information about the conference (a map of campus, a schedule of all the panels, your ticket for the Saturday night event, etc.) Take the time to stroll around campus. Panels start at 1pm: all you need to do is listen and learn. Feel free to ask questions!

By 5:30, dinner will be served in Cleghorn: sit down and mingle with your peers! (If you can’t make it to Bishop’s by then, don’t worry; you’ll still be able to register Saturday morning!)

Now at 7pm, we have two options for you. If you’re exhausted after a long day of traveling, you might want to go back to your accommodation to relax, look over your paper one more time, or watch Netflix before falling into a peaceful slumber–that’s cool, we get you.

However, if all this intellectual talking has you fired up and you’re down for a few drinks, come join us for QUEUC’s Trivia Night at the Gait. There, you will be able to bond in a more casual setting and let all the arcane trivia knowledge you’ve accumulated throughout the years shine through!

SATURDAY: A brand new day! On Saturday, head back to Cleghorn for early breakfast at 8:30am. After a few muffins, shake the stress of your presentation away and get excited for weird questions regarding that paper you wrote two semesters ago.

Fast-forward to 5pm: Dinner in Cleghorn and free time to let your brain process all the fabulous new things you learned today. At 7pm, move either to Centennial Theatre for a performance of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night–put on by BU’s own theatre department–or to Bandeen Hall, for Bishop’s University’s Film Festival (BUFF). To close off the weekend, come celebrate with us at the Gait for the BUFF/QUEUC wrap-up party!

The Bishop's University Film Festival offers a screening of student made short films, awards, and a red carpet gala. All of BU's A-List celebrities (like our principal Michael Goldbloom) will be there.

Or if theatre is more your thing, the BUDD's (Bishop's University Drama Department) production of Twelfth Night (you know, the basis of everyone's favourite Amanda Bynes movie She's The Man) is running this weekend!

One of our main goals here at QUEUC is to make sure that you share your knowledge with your peers and that you contribute to an academic conversation that interests you. However, we also think you should be able to get down and bust a few moves with us. So whether you’re a wallflower, a social butterfly, or a crazy party animal, QUEUC’s got you covered!

See you on this weekend!
